Injection and Moral Outrage 1997-2010
Back in the 1980’s ‘Smack in the Eye’ had been aimed at injecting drug users. The primary aim had been the prevention of HIV, but the prevention of overdose and the avoidance of the damage that injection can cause were equally important aims for us, as these were the blood and guts reality we saw in the needle exchange.
Although it is often a false morality whipped up by the media, there is still a strong moral reaction caused by the use of drugs. However, injecting, which after all is simply a rather efficient way to get a drug into your body, causes a particular extreme form of moral outrage and the materials we have produced on safer injecting have at times led to us being attacked and threatened.
